David Dodwell, Executive Director, the Hong Kong-APEC Trade Policy Group and Chief Executive, Strategic Access Limited, gave a presentation on the APEC “STAR” Datanase at Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce on Monday, September 5, 2016.
As part of the intensive effort to improve the awareness of the importance of services in competiveness, the APEC Services Trade Access Requirements (STAR) Database was built to provide a business friendly, online tool for services companies to understand the policy and regulatory requirement when entering the overseas market.
The STAR Database centralises widely dispersed information in a single repository, and presents it in a user-friendly way. It help SMEs who usually lack of time and resources to conduct the necessary research independently, to trade by increasing the transparency of rules and regulations affecting market access.
The STAR Database now has covered all 21 APEC economies and 8 sectors (financial services, professional services, telecoms services, computer related services, distribution services and transport and logistics services, education services and mining and energy services). User of the STAR Database can quickly and simply discover the licences needed for new comer, tax rules, visa requirements, foreign exchange issues, incorporation requirements – and the restrictions that might be in place.
